Health Sector Law is an incorporated legal practice (ILP), registered with the Victorian Legal Services Board.
Established in June 2017, Health Sector Law is a boutique legal practice advising clients in the health sector. The Practice Principal is Dr Tim Smyth. Tim was a partner in the Corporate and Commercial legal team at DLA Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper) and, more recently, Special Counsel with the Health, Aged Care and Life Sciences legal team at Holman Webb lawyers.
Tim's legal clients have included health services, government agencies, public and private hospitals, doctors, professional associations, health funds, research bodies, Primary Health Networks, small and medium enterprises and other service providers to the health sector, non government organisations and charities.
Health Sector Law is a registered business name of Guyra Ardee Pty Ltd ABN 46 095 832 778. Guyra Ardee Pty Ltd also trades as Tim Smyth Consulting, providing a specialist management consulting service to the health and government sectors.
With degrees in medicine, law and business administration, Tim is well known in the Australian health industry. Building on over 30 years of experience, he has an in depth understanding of the health industry and government. Tim is an experienced senior executive and company director. He has had an extensive career across all facets of the NSW public sector health system. His career includes 6 years as Deputy Director-General in the NSW Ministry of Health.
Tim's Directorships range across companies, agencies and institutes. He is currently a Director of the Black Dog Institute and CMAX Pty Ltd. He was formerly Chair of the Western NSW Primary Health Network, Director of the Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network and Director of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.
Tim has been nominated by his peers as one of Australia's Best Lawyers in Health and Aged Care Law in Best Lawyers Australia in both 2016 and 2017.
